Happy almost Valentines Day readers! Hope you all have a great one! Now, let’s talk music. Everyone goes through hard times in their lives. Even when life is good, there’s always gonna be days that aren’t, because we don’t live in a perfect world. But the key to get through these times of misfortune is coping mechanisms. Mine is music. I have several, of course, because several are needed sometimes. But music is my main one. I love inspirational songs so mug because they can give you hope. I love singing along with songs that talk about hard times, and how the person got stronger going through them and getting past it all. It gives me a sense of power to sing about persevering. One song that I really love for this reason is called Warrior, by Demi Lavato. It’s very powerful and has a lot of meaning. The one I’ll be talking about today is I’ll rise up, by Andra Day.
This song is one of my favorites. I like to think of this song in the perspective of god singing to us. She starts the song with; “You’re broken down and tired, of living life on a merry-go-round.” She sings about how someone she loves is hurting, how they’re worn and feel like they can’t go on. And how they can’t find the fighter inside themselves, but she sees it in them and she’s going to help them find it. This is similar to what god sees in us everyday. A lot of the times we see ourselves as our faults, mistakes, and things that are hard on us. But god sees us as strong, capable people. And everyone has to hear that sometimes. We all need a shoulder to lean on and someone to cheer us on. Andra is cheering on her friend, because she knows that her friend can get through it. A lot of the times we got stuck in our bed and feel like we can’t do it, we can’t go on, can’t keep being strong. But we just need a nudge.
The chorus of this song says, “I’ll rise up, I’ll rise like the day, I’ll rise up, in spite of the ache.” I love these lyrics. The first part especially, because just like the darkness of night comes to and end and the bright day begins, hardship comes to an end and we will have beauty for ashes and all will be well again. Things always get worse before they get better, but they do get better. It’s hard to have that mindset when you’re the one living in the night phase, but that’s what friends are for. That’s what family is for. Support, encouragement. Life is full of hard times, so be there for your friends and they’ll be there for you. Because nobody can get through everything alone without becoming bitter or angry with the world and life is too short to feel that way. If you feel like you’re broken down and tired, lean on someone you love. It’s okay to need help sometimes. Anyways, have a good weekend everyone.
